Properly used, it hones the surface of the solar dome into a smooth, hard natural finish resembling the wild horse hoof -- and without the risks of causing harm if attempted with the hoof knife. It also enables the practitioner to give the bars a mustang roll also in keeping with the wild horse model. 80 grit sandpaper is recommended to really "fine tune" the finish.
