I've used this shoe puller for 25 years. It's going to outlast me -- ditto the nail puller at right too. Sometimes it makes de-shoeing easier to yank out a few nails before using the shoe puller at left. Shoers use them to pull astray nails in the hoof wall, but you can use them to help you get the shoes off!  I would not think of de-shoeing without having this handy tool in my hoof stand work center.
